Flower skirt

[question] what can i do with these?

i've got at least 5 of these ink refills lying around, can i do anything with these?

or more precisely, the ink in them without making a huge mess (which is what i'm afraid will happen if i just snip them in half)

they can't be used for writing anymore because the balls are damaged :( (happens when they roll off the table without their caps on)... and they're uniball signo 0.38 fyi.

much thanks in advance!

(no subject)

hey I'm new to this community. I'm working on 2 new projects at the moment for a person who I'm more than friends with but less than boyfriend status.
The first one is a mix CD. It's packaged like a normal CD (CD case and artwork and lyrics) except I've done all the artwork. It's filled with in-jokey pictures and songs that remind me of him. If anyone wants to do this and wants hints and tips lemme know =)
This project isn't for the faint-hearted though. Making all the CD artwork takes me a week of pretty much non stop work. I've only done it for one other person but he loved it.
edited: Now with pictures :D.Collapse )

The next one is a bog standard toy mole (He calls me his mole, due to my inability to see without my glasses on)

This comes to my last idea for a present. We have this thing called the "Dexter clause". It's basically a I promise this will never happen type thing.

The Dexter rule states:I will not freak out about whatever you tell me.Collapse )

Kurt Cobain Valentine

This Valentine's day, I actually have someone to give something to... :) He is VERY obsessed with Nirvana, like myself, so I've decided to make a most-excellent Kurt Cobain valentine in the theme of 'heart shaped box'...
This cost exactly 3.40$, and that's including the pictures that I had to pay for from the library. :PI've been livin' in your heart-shaped box for weeks...Collapse )

Family Tree

My grandmother is turning 85 in a month, and I know she would love a family tree with pictures of everyone in her family as a present. She LOVES pictures and all the walls in her room are covered with them. The problem is, I'm not really sure how to execute this idea so it looks professional. I will have the whole thing framed and such, but I'm having trouble coming up with ideas for how to make the actual tree. Should I craft an actual tree and glue on pictures? Should I go for the geometric approach and just connect everyone with lines?

Please share any ideas you might have! Thanks!

Book boxes

This community inspired me to do some craftsy projects over break, so I made several book boxes and really enjoyed it. It's a neat outcome too!

The best tutorial I found was at WikiHow: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Hollow-Book.

Some things I found useful:
Old Reader's Digests have pretty covers and occasional nice pictures inside.
A sponge works just as well as a brush.
Drilling holes at each "corner" makes that 90 degree turn much easier.
Clasps are really cute additions to make it more "box" like and I glued pictures on the bottom inlay of the box.
I found the bigger Exacto knives do the job quicker and with a decent amount of precision.

Some finished products:

Sorry if the pictures are too big. My LJ cut function disappeared...I will resize if necessary.

This is great for creating your own CD mixes. The steps are under the cut.

Made from an idea posted here.

I wasn't sure if this was allowed, but I thought I would post what I made, based on this post http://community.livejournal.com/diygifts/6982.html#cutid1 . I thought it was a great idea, but I suck at painting, so I decided to change that detail.
